TIMEFRAME
When does this project have to be finished by? Do you have another bathroom in your home to use or are you staying with a friend? If your planning for having another child it could reduce your time frame down to eight weeks for your bathroom remodel. This is important to fully think out so that you can decide what parts of the remodeling project.
WISH LIST
New tile? Lighting? Fixtures? Moving walls? Cabinets? Are adding another beautiful sink? A stand-alone shower? For us, the only thing we saved was the toilet. We did a ton of demolition and even moved a wall back six inches to make room for a stand-alone shower. This list will come in handy for the budget.
INSPIRATION
Start a bathroom remodel Pinterest board and collect ideas that you love. Do you want a drop-in tub? Do you love subway tile? Grout color? Different grout color for walls and floor? What about vanity lights? Stare at tons of pictures and really think about exactly what you love about that image.
MAKE A BUDGET
Also, realize things come up in bathroom remodels, so give yourself plenty of wiggle room within your budget.
FIND HELP?
Do you need someone to move to plumbing? Add lighting? Do you feel comfortable tiling yourself? Countertops? Glass enclosure for the shower? It’s a simple process that you can do online in Google and get immediate responses and schedule folks to give you free bids. There are other free services that provide customer comments on various general contractors, which can help you decide on who to hire.
SPECIAL ORDERING?
If you work with the right custom design team you shouldn’t miss anything! But if you are a DIY there is a chance you will have to make several trips to Home Depot. As long as you are thinking ahead, special orders are no big deal, and you can usually even ship them directly to your home for free!
ALL THE SMALL THINGS
All the small things. Truth care. Truth Brings. “Blink 182” Sorry that song just popped into my head. Where do you want outlets? Where do you need lights? How high do you want the lights? Will you have one three-light wall sconce or two two-light sconces? One or two mirrors? Where do the light switches go? Where will towel racks hang? Cabinet hardware? Do you want a built-in shower and bathtub cabinets? It’s nice to be able to tell the electrician and or plumber ahead of time exactly where you want these things to go.
TILE & FIXTURES
Go to your local Home Depot store and look at the materials in person. Having a Pinterest inspiration board comes in very handy, and take pictures on your phone of what you like in the store. Include prices in the pictures for easy reference later. Also, remember things like smaller tiles equals more grout, which equals a less slippery floor, which was a huge decision maker for our floor tile choice.
DONT STRESS ITS JUST A BATHROOM
Everything is going to be A-OK, I promise. In the end, you’re going to have a brand-spanking’ new bathroom to enjoy and admire for as long as you live in your house! If you’re thinking about starting a bathroom remodel project, do it! It will be awesome. If you’ve already made the decision to remodel, congrats! Now, plan, plan, plan! You will love the finished product! If you’ve recently completed a bathroom remodel, high five, friend! Take a bubble bath and enjoy!
